Ras Mohamed National Park is the pride of Egypt for many reasons. Firstly, this is Egypt’s first National Park (opened in 1983), secondly, its unique location: between the Gulf of Suez in the west and the Gulf of Aqaba in the east, thirdly, the southern part of the reserve is among the TOP 10 best in the world beaches for snorkeling and diving. In addition, there are the Gates of Allah, wild mangroves and their fauna, the incredibly beautiful and very salty “Lake of Desires,” wild coral reefs, earth faults (reaching 6 meters in length and 10 meters in depth) as a result of earthquakes. You can see all this thanks to the program of our excursion “Snorkeling Safari in the Ras Mohamed National Reserve”.

The phrase “Ras Mohamed” is translated from Arabic as “head of Mohamed.” But why does the reserve have this name? Mohammed was the last prophet sent by God to Earth, who wrote God’s last confession, that is, the Koran, and if you look at the map from above, the contours of the reserve outline the contours of the prophet’s head. That is why it bears such a name. Wildlife and unique landscapes make this place very attractive to tourists. Animal species such as gazelles, foxes, many reptiles and white storks are still preserved here. This is all thanks to mangrove trees – because they provide an opportunity for birds to hatch their chicks. It is worth adding that not only land flora and fauna are developed in the reserve – more than a thousand species of fish, corals under water, of which there are up to 150 species, and naturally elevated corals above sea level, which are up to 2 billion years old – also make the reserve famous. And you can see all this with your own eyes! In addition, a person of any age (from 0 to 100 years) can visit the reserve with us, because our program allows people of all age categories to do this!

– Pick up from your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh                                      

Around 08:30 in the morning (we will inform you about the exact time after booking the tour), our representative will pick you up by transfer near the gate of your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.

– Stop for rent equipment                                           

Then, we will stop at an equipped diving center to rent the equipment you need (optional, for an additional fee): masks, life jackets, thermal suits, fins. The road to the reserve takes on average 30-40 minutes and is 12 km.

– Snorkeling in Gozlany Bay

After entering the reserve, the first stop will be snorkeling (swimming) in Barracuda Bay – one of the most famous among divers with a uniquely beautiful coral reef. The first stop will take up to 1.5 hours.

– Gate of Allah in Ras Mohammed National park

Then, we will go to the Gate of Allah – this is a huge stone monument erected after the end of the six-day Arab-Israeli war, when Egypt regained the temporarily occupied Sinai Peninsula, including the Ras Mohammed nature reserve. The monument symbolizes the coming of peace, and if you look at it from the Egyptian side, you can read the word “Allah” in Arabic, and if you look at the gate from the Israeli side, you can see the same thing written in Hebrew.

– Mangrove trees

After stopping at the Gate of Allah, we will go to the mangrove groves (please note – not mango groves!). Mangrove trees grow in the tidal zone of sea coasts and river mouths in places protected from waves by coral reefs. Their peculiarity is that they have adapted to growing in salt water, to the constant ebb and flow of tides, and to the lack of oxygen in the soil. But the most interesting thing is that since they desalinate water, salt accumulates in tissues (roots, trunks and leaves – the latter subsequently fall off), and leaves dotted with salt crystals can be seen with the naked eye.

Dear tourists, we kindly request: since we take care of nature, all flora and all fauna – you cannot touch mangroves with your hands or step on them, because this provokes their death. Thank you, we hope for your understanding.

– Geological faults of the earth after earthquake in Ras Mohammed

After the mangroves, our guide will show you the natural geological faults of the earth, formed as a result of a powerful earthquake that occurred millions of years ago. Scientists agree that the earthquake was over 7 points, since it formed cracks up to 10 meters deep. Another interesting fact is that the cracks are filled with sea water, which no longer has direct access to the sea after the earthquake.

– Lake of Wishes

And our last, but one of our most important stops will be at the “Lake of Wishes”. “Lake of Wishes” is a kind of salty spring, similar in composition to the water of the Dead Sea, which also has healing properties, such as healing wounds or treating skin diseases. Even on the hottest day, the water in the lake remains cooler than in the sea. But why? The fact is that at the bottom of the lake there are gushing salty springs. And it doesn’t have this name “Lake of Wishes” by chance, because according to legend, if you plunge headlong into the lake three times and make your most cherished wish, it will definitely come true. Against the background of the lake you can see a part of the mountain, the shape of which to some resembles the head of a lion, and to others the head of a dragon – this is the guardian of the lake. He guarded the lake for many centuries, as a result of which he turned into stone.

– After such a wonderful day, we begin our return home to your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh. You will arrive at the hotel approximately at 14:30.
