Throughout Egypt there are many unique monuments from different eras, but the concentration of them in Luxor and its surroundings is simply incredible! Tourists from all over the world come here to see and visit ancient temples with their own eyes, to feel the magic of secrets, myths and legends that envelop this place. In ancient times, the Egyptians paid a lot of attention to the afterlife and the worship of the gods. The Holy River Nile divided the city of Luxor into two parts: the “city of the dead” and the “city of the living.” At the same time, the living lived in palaces and temples with their facades facing the side where the sun rose. And accordingly, the “city of the dead” was built where the sun set. Palaces, temples, tombs of pharaohs, their wives and dignitaries, magnificent paintings and majestic monuments… All this has been here for more than a thousand years!

Program “Trip to Luxor from Sharm El Sheikh”:

– Pick up from the hotel                               

Our representative guide will pick you up from your hotel gate at approximately 04:30 am (we will inform you of the exact time after booking the excursion) and transfer you to Sharm El Sheikh airport for your flight to Luxor. The flight takes 50 minutes. Our professional guide will meet you at Luxor airport. You will arrive in Luxor at approximately 06:30 am.

– City of dead

The first place to visit after arrival is the west coast, or “City of the Dead”. Which is the funeral complex of the ancient Egyptians. We will visit the most famous sites of the City of the Dead – the Valley of the Kings and the temple of Queen Hatshepust.

– Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings is the burial site of the pharaohs, which differs significantly from others in that the rulers of Thebes (the ancient name of the city, of Greek origin) did not build pyramids. Since many tombs were plundered by robbers – the new Pharaohs after Thutmose I were in the hope that if they were buried under rocky gorges and cliffs with falling doors of the entrance to the crypt covered with stones from the outside, this would prevent tomb plundering. This place is considered the most majestic cemetery in the world! After all, it was here in 1922 that Howard Cartner found the buried entrance to Tutankhamun’s tomb. And in general, over the course of 500 years, 63 registered tombs were discovered in the Valley of the Kings, but recently 3 more tombs were found (the great pharaoh Ramses II rests here).

– Temple of Queen Hatshepust

Next on the program will be a visit to the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepust – an incredibly beautiful structure built at the beginning of the 15th century BC. e. How many female pharaohs do you know? This will be the answer to the question – why was the temple built in such a unique design. Queen Hatshepust was, without understatement, one of the most magnificent women in all of world history. After the death of her husband, Thutmose II, she took the throne from the rightful successor, Thutmose III. But how? Yes, she wore a fake beard and attributes of male pharaohs to be a contender for the throne!

– Collos of Memnon

Soon, after the temple of the queen, we will visit the Collos of Memnon – which are depicted in the form of two huge stone statues (their height reaches 18 meters, and each weighs more than 700 tons), in fact describing Amenhotep III sitting on his throne. These are the only statues that remain in front of the temple. But why are their names different? The fact is that after the Greeks came to Egypt, they saw in the statues a resemblance to their Trojan horse, named Memnon. Even despite this mistake, it was decided to leave the name the same.

– Lunch at a restaurant

Then, an exciting part of the excursion awaits us – a crossing to the Eastern Bank across the Nile River and lunch at the Maro restaurant (dear tourists, please note that drinks are not included in the price of lunch).

If you wish, you can visit banana island for an additional fee of £10.

– Karnak Temple

Our last stop is Karnak Temple. This is the largest temple complex of Ancient Egypt and the main state sanctuary of the New Kingdom (the era of the highest flowering of ancient Egyptian statehood, known for the largest number of monuments). There are also temples dedicated to the supreme god Amon-Ra, his wife Mut and his son Khonsu. Since 1979, this temple has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The difference between this temple is that it was built by more than one pharaoh, and not even by one dynasty! Construction began in the 16th century BC. and lasted for more than 1300 years! It is said that approximately 30 pharaohs were involved in the creation, construction of pylons, temples, obelisks and chapels dedicated to the gods of Thebes. The total area of the Temple of Amon-Ra alone is 30 hectares! In addition, inside the large courtyard of the Karnak Museum there is a sacred lake, on the shore of which there is a wish-fulfilling scarab beetle lying on a marble column.

– Return back to Sharm El Sheikh

And after such an incredibly busy day, at about 20:00 we return from Luxor airport to Sharm El Sheikh to your hotel (estimated arrival time 21:30).
